AS Coursework Proposal Table

Type of Magazine (fashion, music, etc)	The type of magazine I will produce will be a music magazine.
Name of Magazine	My name of my magazine will be This will go with my idea for the magazine as the magazine is meant to inspire young people into a career in music. The font is curved, soft and appealing to the eye, however it has sharp skinny parts which shows that it isn't for a really young audience, but for my target audience. I have also put colours in the circles of the letters, like Billboard magazine does as it is for the same target audience; young adults and it includes new music.
Audience (male/female)	My target audience will be female aged 14-21 years old.
Audience (attitudes and interests)	They will be into new music releases/newcomers including albums and artists.
Outlet (where it can be bought from?)	The magazine will be in supermarket retailer outlets.
Necessary Information	It will have the date and websites which will be situated near the masthead.
Selling Point	The main selling points of my magazine will be seeing new material/up-and-coming artists before everyone else. My magazine will also include information about concerts and artists.
Theme (article)	My theme for my magazine will be about music of today. It will include current artists and what artists/bands will be coming to the music scene in the near future.
Images Front Cover	The front cover of my magazine will have a main image of the artist/band along with the main sell line. The other sell lines will be bands and artists names.
Images Inside	The inside images will be an image of artists/bands using close up and long shots depending on how many are in the image.

Deconstruction of Double Page Spread for Music Magazine

This is my Deconstruction of 3 Double Page Spreads for a Music Magazine which I have uploaded to Slideshare from Powerpoint, then downloaded it on to this site.

For my Preliminary Task Front Cover I would change the cover image, as it could have been Photoshopped to make it look better and I would also like to put a person on the front cover and make the image bigger and change the colours of the image so it stands out more effectively, against the pale background I want to change as well. I will also change the image so that it keeps in with my colour palette. I will also change the sell line as it is on top of the image, it needs to be changed so that the audience can actually read it and so that it grabs the readers attention. Also I need to change my text as it doesn’t really fit in with the magazine conventions as the cover lines aren’t in capital letters, they aren’t bold enough to stand out against the other pieces on the page and aren’t in the correct style. I have also found that for college magazines they have sell lines with a few words underneath which explain a little about that specific sell line which I need to add in. I would also like to change the masthead as it looks plain and doesn’t stand out against the rest of the page as it should.

For my Preliminary Task Contents Page I would like to change my layout as it may be all in the right places but it looks plain and not very detailed. Also the colours need to be bolder as it looks unprofessional. I would also change the main image as it needs to have a plain background, Photoshopped and a long shot. I also want to change the blue boxes as it will look more professional if it was black lines with a white background. I also need to make the text fit into the box and change the style of it to make it consistent and to make it look like magazine text. For my task I would also like to add in the page number at the bottom left hand side of the page along with a small masthead to along side it.

Good

Throughout the task I placed the images, cover lines, sell lines, essential information, titles and masthead in the correct places and used language which would appeal to my college audience. I also used a small colour palette as they only use a 3 or 4 colours on the magazines I have researched.

Gary’s Feedback

GOOD: For my Preliminary Task I followed typical magazine conventions. I also had a clear contents page, good, quality images and included essential information.

BAD: However my masthead was pixilation and didn’t really stand out. I also needed to change my fonts so that they were more interesting and eye catching to the reader and change my main cover-line as it is hard to read due to the colour I used.
